Side Effects of Tolterodine ER

While most people have no problems when taking tolterodine ER, side effects can include dry mouth, drowsiness, and abdominal pain. These side effects are usually mild and do not require medical attention in most cases. However, if you develop serious side effects of tolterodine ER, such as severe constipation, arrhythmia, or confusion, contact your healthcare provider right away.

 

Side Effects of Tolterodine ER: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with tolterodine ER (Detrol LA®); however, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Side Effects of Tolterodine ER

Some side effects with tolterodine ER, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Severe constipation
  • Worsening of glaucoma
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Confusion
  • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as unexplained rash, hives, itching, wheezing, and unexplained swelling.
