Side Effects of Teriparatide

While most people tolerate the medication well, potential side effects of teriparatide include dizziness, joint pain, and runny or stuffy nose. In most cases, these side effects are minor and don't require medical attention. There are, however, several potentially serious teriparatide side effects that should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately, such as fainting, depression, and signs of an allergic reaction.

 

Side Effects of Teriparatide: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with teriparatide (Forteo™); however, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Side Effects of Teriparatide

Some side effects with teriparatide, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Fainting
  • Depression
  • Symptoms of high calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcemia), such as:
 
 
 
    • Unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing.
