What Is Tazarotene Used For?

Off-Label Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the uses discussed in this article. Tazarotene (or other retinoids like it) are sometimes used off-label to treat various skin conditions, such as:

  • Actinic keratosis (a kind of precancerous skin lesion)
  • Keratosis pilaris (a common ailment that causes "bumpy skin," often on the back of the arms)
  • Melasma (dark pigmentation of the skin typically related to pregnancy or hormone use)
  • Rosacea.

Of course, using Avage to treat acne or psoriasis or using Tazorac to treat sun damage would also be considered off-label uses.
