Tazarotene Dosage

General Dosage Information

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with tazarotene include the following:

  • Tazarotene is usually applied once daily to the affected areas in the evening. Use only a thin layer.

  • For acne, be sure to cover the entire affected area. For psoriasis, use only on affected skin (do not apply to healthy skin). For sun damage, apply to the entire face (including the eyelids, if desired).

  • Wash your hands after applying this product, unless you are treating your hands.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure on areas of the body where tazarotene has been applied, since you will burn more easily. A sunscreen of at least SPF 15 should be used daily, especially if the medication is applied to the face.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.

  • Because tazarotene can cause birth defects, women of childbearing potential should have a negative pregnancy test before starting treatment and should start the medication during a normal menstrual period. Adequate birth control must be used (see Avage and Pregnancy or Tazorac and Pregnancy for more information).

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or tazarotene dosing in general, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
