Drug Interactions With Tazarotene

Problems can occur when Diuril, Cipro, Sumycin, or a number of other medications are taken with tazarotene. Because tazarotene makes you more sensitive to the sun, it puts you at a much higher risk of burning when you take it with other medications that increase your sun sensitivity. Before starting treatment with tazarotene, talk to your doctor about the drug interactions that apply to you.

An Overview of Tazarotene Interactions

Even though tazarotene (Avage®, Tazorac®) is applied to the skin, it can potentially interact with a few other medications. Some of the products that may lead to drug interactions with tazarotene include:
  • Sulfonamides ("sulfa drugs"), including:
    • Sulfadiazine
    • Sulfadoxine (Fansidar®)
    • Sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim®, Septra®)
    • Sulfisoxazole (Gantrisin®)
