Ibuprofen/Famotidine Drug Information

Ibuprofen/famotidine (DuexisTM) is a medication prescribed for the following conditions:

This combination product has a variety of effects on the body. The ibuprofen component is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works to treat pain and inflammation by blocking the production of various inflammatory substances in the body. The other active ingredient (famotidine) is an H2 blocker that works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Because ibuprofen has a tendency to cause ulcers, famotidine is added to Duexis to help reduce the risk for ulcers.

Information your healthcare provider needs when prescribing ibuprofen/famotidine includes a list of all other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription medications and supplements, and any other medical conditions you have. Ibuprofen/famotidine is approved for use in adults only. It comes in tablet form and is taken three times daily.
