Side Effects of Rivastigmine

Severe vomiting, fainting, and hallucinations are some of the potentially serious side effects of rivastigmine that should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. However, most side effects are minor and do not require medical attention. Some of these common (and usually not dangerous) rivastigmine side effects include indigestion or heartburn, insomnia, abdominal pain, and dizziness.

Side Effects of Rivastigmine: An Overview

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with rivastigmine tartrate (Exelon®); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, they are often minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

This article refers to the oral forms of rivastigmine (capsules and oral solution). The drug also comes in patch form (see Side Effects of the Rivastigmine Patch). The rivastigmine patch provides the benefits of once-daily dosing and a continuous release of the medication.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with rivastigmine. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of rivastigmine side effects with you.)
