Side Effects of Oxybutynin ER

Difficulty passing urine, severe constipation, and an irregular heart rhythm are some of the potentially serious side effects of oxybutynin ER that may require medical attention. In most cases, however, side effects of the drug are minor and either don't require treatment or can be treated easily. These common oxybutynin ER side effects may include dry mouth, drowsiness, headache, and nausea.

 

An Introduction to Oxybutynin ER Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with oxybutynin ER (Ditropan XL®); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Side Effects Seen With Oxybutynin ER

Some side effects with oxybutynin ER, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Severe constipation
  • Worsening of glaucoma
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Confusion
  • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained rash, hives, itching, wheezing, and unexplained swelling.
