Side Effects of Naproxen/Esomeprazole Magnesium

In clinical studies of naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium, the most commonly reported side effects included inflammation of the stomach lining, heartburn, and diarrhea. Although most people do not experience any problems with this medication, serious reactions can occur. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, slurred speech, or any other potentially dangerous symptoms.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Naproxen/Esomeprazole Magnesium

As with any medicine, naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium (Vimovo™) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Naproxen/Esomeprazole Magnesium Side Effects to Report

Naproxen/
 esomeprazole magnesium contains naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID). As such, it can cause certain serious side effects that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
 
    • Chest pain
    • Shortness of breath or other breathing difficulties
    • Pain in the shoulder, arm, or jaw
 
 
    • Slurred speech
    • Weakness on one side of the face or body
    • Confusion
 
  • Signs of bleeding of the digestive tract, such as:
 
    • Dark, tarry stools
    • Bloody vomit

 

  • Signs of low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia), such as:
    •  
    • Muscle spasm
    • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
    • Seizures 
 
  • Signs of liver problems, such as:
 
    • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
    • Elevated liver enzymes (found using a blood test)
 
  • Rapid weight gain, water retention, or unusual swelling of the arms, legs, hands, or feet
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
