Side Effects of Naproxen/Esomeprazole Magnesium

Common Side Effects

Naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in another group of people who were taking either a different medication (naproxen) or a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients).
 
As a result, it was possible to see what naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the other medication or placebo.
 
In these studies, the most common side effects of naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium included:
 
  • Inflammation of the stomach lining with erosion of the protective layer (erosive gastritis) -- in up to 19 percent of people
  • Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 18 percent
  • Inflammation of the stomach lining without loss of the protective layer (gastritis) -- up to 17 percent
  • Diarrhea -- up to 6 percent
  • Stomach ulcers -- up to 6 percent
  • Upper abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 6 percent.

You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.
