Drug Interactions With Naproxen/Esomeprazole Magnesium

Drug Interactions With Naproxen/Esomeprazole Magnesium Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

ACE Inhibitors
Naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium might reduce the effectiveness of ACE inhibitors for lowering blood pressure and may also increase the risk for kidney damage. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider should monitor your blood pressure and your kidney function to watch for this interaction.

Certain Antifungal Medications
Combining naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium with certain antifungals may decrease the effectiveness of the antifungal (due to decreased absorption) and may also increase the level of naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium in the blood. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Certain Diuretics
Naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium may decrease the effectiveness of many diuretics. Additionally, combining these medications may increase the risk of kidney damage. If you take such medications together, your healthcare provider should monitor your kidney function and make sure that your diuretic is still working well.

In addition, naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium can cause low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia). Because certain diuretics can also cause this problem, combining naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium with one of these diuretics could cause severely low blood magnesium levels, which may lead to serious side effects such as muscle spasms, irregular heart rhythms, or seizures.

Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium with one of these diuretics.
