Miacalcin Injection Side Effects

Nausea, flushing, and a reaction at the injection site are the most commonly reported Miacalcin injection side effects. These side effects are minor in most cases and generally don't require treatment. However, it is possible to develop serious side effects of Miacalcin injection that require immediate medical attention, such as signs of low blood calcium or an allergic reaction.

An Introduction to Miacalcin Injection Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Miacalcin® injection (calcitonin salmon injection); however, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Miacalcin injection. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Miacalcin injection side effects with you.)

Common Miacalcin Injection Side Effects

Miacalcin injection has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which a group of people taking the drug have side effects documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common side effects of Miacalcin injection included:

  • Nausea (with or without vomiting) -- in about 10 percent of people
  • Injection site reaction (pain, redness, or irritation at the injection site) -- about 10 percent
  • Flushing of the face or hands -- about 2 to 5 percent.

Other possible side effects (frequency not reported) included:

  • Needing to urinate during the night
  • Itchy ear lobes
  • Feverish sensation
  • Eye pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
  • Swelling of the feet
  • Salty taste in the mouth.
