Maqui Berry Drug Interactions

The maqui berry is an antioxidant-rich fruit claimed to be a "super fruit." Although there are no clearly established drug interactions with maqui berry, theoretically, it could interact with diabetes medications. Antioxidants, such as those found in maqui, may reduce blood sugar levels. If you are taking any diabetes medications, including oral or injectable ones, do not take maqui berry without first checking with your healthcare provider. Close monitoring of your blood sugar may be recommended, at least initially.

It is important to understand that the lack of known maqui drug interactions may simply reflect the fact that this product has been studied very little in humans. There may be drug interactions that are not currently known at this time. For this reason, it is important to mention maqui berry when your healthcare provider asks about medications and supplements you take.
