Senior Health Home > Tolterodine ER for Overactive Bladder

Available by prescription only, tolterodine ER (Detrol LA®) is a drug used to treat an overactive bladder. Specifically, it is licensed to help treat the following symptoms:

  • Sudden, frequent urges to urinate
  • Frequent urination (needing to go more than eight times in 24 hours)
  • Leaking accidents (known as urinary incontinence or urge incontinence).
  •
By binding to specific receptors in the bladder, the medication can help the muscles to relax, which helps reduce symptoms of the condition.
