Calcitonin Salmon Nasal Spray -- Osteoporosis
Calcitonin salmon nasal spray (Fortical® nasal spray, Miacalcin® nasal spray) is a prescription drug licensed for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. In addition to its use as an osteoporosis treatment, calcitonin nasal spray is occasionally prescribed "off-label" for the prevention of osteoporosis. It works by slowing down the rate at which bone breaks down.
This medication is a manufactured version of calcitonin, a naturally occurring hormone that helps regulate bone formation and breakdown. It is typically used once daily as a single spray.
