Senior Health Home > Drug Interactions With Ginkgo

Ginkgo Interactions and Bleeding
Ginkgo decreases the ability of blood platelets to stick together. While this may be a beneficial effect in many situations, it can also increase the risk of bleeding. Combining ginkgo with medications that increase the risk of bleeding could be dangerous. Some of these "blood-thinning" medicines that may lead to ginkgo drug interactions include:
    • Alteplase (Activase®)
    • Reteplase (Retavase®)
    • Streptokinase (Streptase®)
    • Tenecteplase (TNKase®)
Do not combine ginkgo with any of these medications without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
