General Information on Taking Extended-Release Gabapentin

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with extended-release gabapentin include the following:

  • Extended-release gabapentin comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth once a day with the evening meal. It is important to take this drug with food.
  • You must swallow the tablets whole; do not chew, crush, or dissolve them, as this causes the medication to be released too quickly.
  • For this medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage of extended-release gabapentin, please talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
