Senior Health Home > Delatestryl Side Effects

As an androgen, Delatestryl has the potential to cause side effects such as male pattern baldness, acne, and low sperm count. People using this medication may also have pain or other reactions at the injection site. In addition, women using this drug must be watchful for the development of any male characteristics (virilization) during treatment.

An Introduction to Delatestryl Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Delatestryl® (testosterone enanthate). However, not everyone who uses the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Delatestryl. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Possible Side Effects of Delatestryl

Delatestryl is an older medication. As such, the side effect information provided in the prescribing information is not highly detailed, as it is for newer medications. In fact, the prescribing information for this medication simply lists side effects that have been reported with androgens in general, not specifically for Delatestryl. No specific percentages are provided.
According to this limited information, some of the possible Delatestryl side effects include but are not limited to:
  • Breast development (in men)
  • Increased frequency and duration of penile erections (in men)
  • Low sperm count, especially at high dosages (in men)
  • Body and facial hair growth
  • Male pattern baldness
  • Acne
  • Increased or decreased sex drive
  • Headache
  • Inflammation and pain at the injection site.
