Hylan G-F 20 (
Synvisc®,
Synvisc-One®) is an
osteoarthritis treatment that is injected directly into the knee to cushion and lubricate the joint. Such treatments are known as viscosupplements. Synvisc is given as three separate injections (each one week apart), while Synvisc-One is given as a single injection. Both versions help to relieve pain for up to six months.
Hylan G-F 20 can cause side effects.
However, not everyone who receives the treatment will experience problems. Most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Possible hylan G-F 20 side effects include but are not limited to:
- Knee pain
- Knee swelling
- Fluid build-up around the knee.
