Extended-Release Gabapentin

Extended-release gabapentin is a medicine prescribed for nerve pain that occurs following a case of shingles. It comes in tablet form and is usually taken once daily with the evening meal. Although most people tolerate this medication well, side effects are possible and may include headaches, drowsiness, and swelling in the extremities.

What Is Extended-Release Gabapentin?

Extended-release gabapentin (Gralise™) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of nerve pain that occurs after a case of shingles (known medically as postherpetic neuralgia). It is a long-acting tablet that is taken just once a day.

Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, extended-release gabapentin can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
 
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.
 
Common extended-release gabapentin side effects include but are not limited to:
 
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Headaches
  • Swelling in the extremities.
