Depo-Testosterone Side Effects

Although Depo-Testosterone is an older medication and information on side effects is vague, some of the possible reactions may include things like headaches, acne, and breast development. If you are using Depo-Testosterone, notify your healthcare provider right away if you experience depression, vomiting, or rapid weight gain. However, reactions to this medicine tend to be minor and easy to treat.

An Introduction to Depo-Testosterone Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Depo®-Testosterone (testosterone cypionate) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Depo-Testosterone. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Possible Side Effects of Depo-Testosterone

Depo-Testosterone is an older medication. As such, the information available on potential side effects is not as detailed as it is for newer medications. In fact, the prescribing information for this medication simply lists side effects that have been reported with androgens in general (not specifically with Depo-Testosterone).

According to this limited information, some of the possible Depo-Testosterone side effects include but are not limited to:

  • Breast development
  • Increased frequency and duration of penile erections
  • Low sperm count (especially at high dosages)
  • Body and facial hair growth
  • Male pattern baldness
  • Acne
  • Increased or decreased sex drive
  • Headaches
  • Inflammation and pain at the injection site.
