Side Effects of Calcitonin Salmon Nasal Spray

Runny or stuffy nose, other nasal symptoms, and back pain are the most common side effects of calcitonin salmon nasal spray. Rare side effects (occurring in less than 1 percent of people) include flushing, cough, and gas. Certain calcitonin salmon nasal spray side effects are potentially serious and may require prompt medical attention, including frequent nosebleeds, depression, and severe nasal irritation.

 

Side Effects of Calcitonin Salmon Nasal Spray: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with calcitonin salmon nasal spray (Fortical® nasal spray, Miacalcin® nasal spray); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Side Effects of Calcitonin Salmon Nasal Spray

Some side effects with calcitonin salmon nasal spray, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Severe or frequent nosebleeds
  • Severe nasal irritation
  • Depression
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
