Aflibercept
When and How to Use This Medicine
Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with aflibercept include the following:- Aflibercept is injected into the eye.
- For age-related macular degeneration, it is injected monthly for the first 12 weeks, and then once every two months thereafter.
- For macular edema caused by retinal vein occlusion, it is injection once a month.
- Your eye(s) will be cleansed to prevent infection, and your eye(s) will be numbed before the injection. While you should feel no pain, you may feel a little pressure.
- For aflibercept to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
Available Strengths
Each vial contains 0.285 mL of aflibercept, with a concentration of 40 mg per mL. This amount is just enough for one 0.05-mL dose of the medication; it is impossible to remove every last drop of a medication in a vial, so there is always some overfill. If you need treatment in both eyes, you will need one vial for each eye; the same vial cannot be used for two eyes.
